In October, Spokane weather starts to cool off at night and it's not unusual for the mornings to be frosty. The smell of wood smoke is in the air and by about the middle of the month I make sure to get the sprinkler system blown out. There have been years when we've had cold snaps that would have caused some real damage to unprotected water systems.
Usually
we have a nice Indian Summer where the temperatures change slowly and the fall
colors are spectacular. There have been years we get a snap freeze where the
overnight temperatures dip into the teens for a week or longer. In those years
the leaves change from green to brown and we miss those fall colors.
If you are visiting the area in the month of October I would bring a warm jacket because the nights get cool and it can get quite windy. That's why I usually wait until the end of the month when it's less windy to clean the pine needles off the roof and out of the gutters. Otherwise you could end up cleaning the pine needles more than once.
October is a great time of year to visit Green Bluff or some of Spokane's many parks to enjoy the fall colors. Manito park and area around it makes for a beautiful area to visit with all of it's grand old maple trees changing colors.
