The Spokane Riverfront Park experience is one that every visitor should have while they are here. The park is the focal point of the city since it opened in 1978 and is the location for many events that take place in Spokane such as Bloomsday, Hoopfest and the annual 4th of July fireworks celebration.
Its location along the Spokane River is a spectacular setting especially in the spring when the river is high from all the snow melt. During this time the falls become a roaring cascade that can be enjoyed from the foot bridges that cross the river inside the park. Be prepared to get from the spray if you happen to be in town in the spring.
The park's 100 acres lends itself to many types of events such as outdoor concerts during the summer and fall in the Lilac Bowl.

The
145 tall steel frame structure that was the U.S. Pavilion during the fair is now
used as an ice skating venue during the winter and is setup with amusement type
rides in summer months.
The amusement rides are geared more for younger kids and include a Ferris Wheel, bumper cars, the "Dragon Coaster", the "Kiddie Bumper Boats", the "Berry-Go-Round", the Red Baron" and the "Tilt-a-Whirl" to name a few.

Because I get motion sick at the drop of hat I would categorize some of these as Spin-n-Barf rides, but that's just me...
The kids will love these rides so be sure to check them out while you are here.
Inside
the main building is a restaurant, a mini golf course called the Enchanted
Forest and loads of arcade games.
There is more than enough fun stuff to do to keep the both kids and adults happy.

One of my favorite features in Spokane Riverfront Park is the beautifully restored Looff Carousel which is housed in the building that was the German Hofbrau during Expo '74 and is celebrating 100 years in Spokane in 2009.
It has a real band organ which is miked so that the music can be heard outside.
The carousel began it's life in Spokane's Natatorium Park in 1909. The Nat closed in 1967 and the carousel was put in storage until it was moved to it's present location in 1975.
Here is the Carousel in action. Don't you love the organ music?
The
5 story tall Imax theater is very popular with people of all ages and is open
year round.
We often go there to catch first run movies as well as the special features that are produced specially for the Imax format.

Take
the 15 minute ride over the falls and under the Monroe street bridge and capture
some great pictures. It runs from March through October but the best months are
March and April when the river is high. You'll see some spectacular white water
as it crashes over the falls.
The Skyride is open 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily and until 10:00 pm on Fri & Sat.
