The West Wing of the White House

At long last we can now go to the White House Grill without having to drive to Post Falls, Id! The new location is affectionately called the West Wing in keeping with the presidential theme of the original. The owner and chef, Raci Erdem, has made a name for himself by serving up a creative blend of Greek, Italian and Turkish food all served with a smile and huge quantities of garlic. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I am happy to report that the menu is pretty much the same as the one in Post Falls as is the quality of the food and level of service. I've been there for lunch twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Here's a tip. It's not on the menu but you can ask your server to have them make it for you. It's a delicious creation called a Spring Bowl which consists of rice mixed with Feta cheese, sautéed green peppers, onions, Garbanzo beans and, of course, lots of garlic. You can choose vegetarian or have it topped with lamb or chicken (I prefer the lamb). It's my favorite lunch time dish.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.

The Steelhead Bar Grill

Halibut & Chips

Give me a nice cozy pub where the beer selection is good, the decor is creative and well thought out and of course good food and I'm a happy man. The Steelhead is just such a place.

Actually my wife gets the credit for finding this place. A friend of hers suggested going there and I'm glad she did!

Some of my favorites are the Halibut and Chips (love the shoestring fries) and the Caesar Salad with Smoked Steelhead. And then there's the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich which is huge. I could go on and on but you get the idea.

The Steelhead is located on 218 N Howard St. in the Bennett block so it's really convenient to Riverfront Park and the downtown shopping area. The Steelhead is good for dinner too but it has become my favorite Spokane lunch destination when I am downtown on the weekend.

Twigs Bistro

Twigs Bistro in River Park Square

There are 4 Twigs locations around Spokane with the most recent one in the Spokane Valley outside the Valley Mall. If you are downtown the one in River Park Square Mall is a good choice for a good lunch.

They have something for everyone from sandwiches, pizza to full entrees. They really give you a lot of choices.

I like to order the Blue Steak sandwich or the Sausage Jalapeño Pizza which is just the right size for lunch. Be sure to check out their signature fires and keep in mind that they have a good drink selection to choose from.
