Spokane Indians Baseball

Spokane Indians Baseball is one of the things that make living in Spokane such a treat. What's better than watching a minor league baseball game under the lights on a warm summer evening? The sights, the sounds of the crowd and the crack of the bat. The food... I can almost smell it!

Minor League Baseball was founded in 1901 and is a the farm system for Major League baseball. So where does Spokane Indians Baseball fit into the baseball hierarchy? <

Well, there are 7 levels (or classes) in the minor league system: Triple-A, Double-A, Class A-Advanced, Class A, Class A-Short Season, Rookie and Winter. The Indians are part of the Class A-Short Season in the North West League (East) and are an affiliate of the Texas Rangers. They play a shortened season that runs from about mid June and ends in early September.

The players in Class A-Short Season are usually first year draftees or second year pros. The late start is to allow any college players competing in the College World Series to finish before turning pro.

When I first moved here to Spokane in the early 80's they let you bring your own coolers full of beer in and the tickets were really cheap. Those days are long gone but it is still a fun time for the whole family. There is all kinds of food available inside the stadium and if you hit it on the right night, $1 hot dogs!

The Indians play all of their home games at Avista Stadium which is located at Spokane Fair and Expo Center. There is plenty of free parking and tickets can be purchased online and at the ballpark.

The stadium was originally built in 1958 and has had few upgrades over the years but it still has as an old time feel to it.

There are many promotional nights with various giveaways but we try to catch the games with post game fireworks. These are usually opening night, 4th of July and the season finale to name the obvious ones. There are several other nights but you will need to check the promotional calendar to find out which ones they are for sure.
