Derringer (right) and Pat Travers put on a great show at

Pig Out In The Park this past Saturday. My ears are still ringing...

The weather forecast sounded a little dodgy but we lucked out this year. The
high winds that were predicted didn't turn out to be that bad so the dust really
wasn't a factor. The temperature was also very pleasant.

There was also more to choose from as far as food offerings this year. And
the prices were very reasonable from about $6 - $8 for a typical offering.

Give me good inexpensive food and great music and I'm a happy guy.

What a great event for Spokane. Hey Bill Burke, thanks for the memories!

Sep 3, Peach Picking in Green Bluff

It's
peach picking time in

Green Bluff! We went up and picked six boxes and generally made a day of it.

After picking peaches we made a stop at Trezzi Farm to check out their new
wine tasting room and to pick up some more of their tasty Italian food to take
home. The first bottling of the Barbera is now available ($25) and they also
have a really nice Sauvignon Blanc ($15) that was bottled by Townsend Cellars.

Then it was time to stop by Harvest House to pick up a couple of sacks of
there freshly made cake doughnuts to take home. While we were there we had a
piece of pie out on the patio and listened to a band that was performing on the
bandstand.

All in all it was a very productive trip. Green Bluff is what makes our
region a great place to live. I recommend it to everyone that visits Spokane to
add it to their list of things to do, especially in the Summer and Fall.

Jul 25, The Cherries in Green Bluff Are Ready to Pick

The
cherries are ready to pick at Green Bluff as you can see by this photo of some
delicious Rainier cherries taken at Hidden Acers this last Thursday. We went up
in the morning and had the orchard to ourselves which has never happened to us
in the past.

We found a small tree loaded with pie cherries and we went ahead and picked a
box worth in about 10 minutes. All without the aid of a ladder. We also picked 2
boxes of Bings and one box of Rainiers.

My wife made one pie and froze the rest for later. The rest we took with us
to eat on a trip to Moses Lake for my sons baseball tournament.

Little did I know that Moses Lake has it's own "Pig Out In The Park"! Like
the one held in Spokane every year in September, this one is also put on by Bill
Burke and the admission is free. We were able to catch the performance by Paula
Cole on Saturday night as a beautiful full moon rose over Moses lake. I have to
admit that I didn't know much about Moses Lake but came away very happy that we
were there to enjoy a wonderful evening in the park with great food and
entertainment.

Pig Out In The Park this year! Two of my favorite guitar hero's, Rick
Derringer and Pat Travers, are booked for Saturday September 4th. Be sure to
mark your calendar and don't forget to bring some lawn chairs for a great
evening of food and music.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate this year. Last year it rained but
cleared up in time for the Tubes to perform. They almost fried the poor keyboard
player when water that was trapped in a tarp above the stage decided to start
leaking right down on the stage. Other than that it was a rocking good time that
night.

It runs from Sept 1-6 and remember it's free admission.

Dec 9, White Christmas in Spokane

According to weather experts you can count on having a white Christmas in
Spokane about 70 of the time. I can attest to this, in fact we usually get a
first dusting by Thanksgiving. Spokane's own Bing Crosby made this notion
popular in the 1940 movie "Holiday Inn" in which he sang "White Christmas". Here
is a AP story entitled
Why Do We Dream of a White Christmas? that explores this idea that is so popular this time of year.
