The cherries are ready to pick at Green Bluff as you can see by this photo of some delicious Rainier cherries taken at Hidden Acers this last Thursday. We went up in the morning and had the orchard to ourselves which has never happened to us in the past.
We found a small tree loaded with pie cherries and we went ahead and picked a box worth in about 10 minutes. All without the aid of a ladder. We also picked 2 boxes of Bings and one box of Rainiers.
My wife made one pie and froze the rest for later. The rest we took with us to eat on a trip to Moses Lake for my sons baseball tournament.
Little did I know that Moses Lake has it's own "Pig Out In The Park"! Like the one held in Spokane every year in September, this one is also put on by Bill Burke and the admission is free. We were able to catch the performance by Paula Cole on Saturday night as a beautiful full moon rose over Moses lake. I have to admit that I didn't know much about Moses Lake but came away very happy that we were there to enjoy a wonderful evening in the park with great food and entertainment.

Check out the entertainment line up for Pig Out In The Park this year! Two of my favorite guitar hero's, Rick Derringer and Pat Travers, are booked for Saturday September 4th. Be sure to mark your calendar and don't forget to bring some lawn chairs for a great evening of food and music.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate this year. Last year it rained but cleared up in time for the Tubes to perform. They almost fried the poor keyboard player when water that was trapped in a tarp above the stage decided to start leaking right down on the stage. Other than that it was a rocking good time that night.
It runs from Sept 1-6 and remember it's free admission.

Spokane weather, especially during the winter, is unpredictable. Storm systems spinning out of the Pacific Ocean hit the Cascade Mountains and usually the moisture gets squeezed out before it can make
According to weather experts you can count on having a white Christmas in Spokane about 70% of the time. I can attest to this, in fact we usually get a first dusting by Thanksgiving. Spokane's own Bing Crosby made this notion popular in the 1940 movie "Holiday Inn" in which he sang "White Christmas". Here is a AP story entitled Why Do We Dream of a White Christmas? that explores this idea that is so popular this time of year.
In October, Spokane weather starts to cool off at night and it's not unusual for the mornings to get frosty.

This September an extra “Literacy Shot” from Laguna Café buys books for kids.
